The FIRST Question to ask when Developing YOUR Website....

What are the goals of my website?

Quite simply put.....'Begin with the end in mind'.

What do you want your visitors to do. Is it, call my phone number? Is it, fill in my contact form?

Websites exist for many different reasons and the goals of each website vary. The major benefit of websites over traditional marketing platforms is that it is much easier to measure success. A smart website will tell you all the information that you need and when armed with that information you can start to make informed decisions about your online marketing.

Don't assume that there are strict rules about the goals of your website. It is YOUR website and it must cater for YOUR needs. For example if don't have the resource to handle incoming phones call do you want one of your goals to be 'Call my phone number'?

Some examples of simple goals are:
  • Complete an online contact form
  • Make an online purchase
  • Call a specific phone number
  • Download a document
  • Click a link
There are other less obvious examples:
  • High number of people to view a specific page
  • Low Bounce rate on the website
The number of times one of your goals is reached is a major metric of success.

What should you do now?.......Identify your goals so that you can measure success. It sounds crazy but the majority of website fail at this first hurdle.

Once you have identified an initial set of goals you are then ready to build your website.
